How to Clean FibreGuard Fabric on Your Couch
One of the reasons customers choose FibreGuard fabric for their couch is because it is designed to be easier to clean than many standard upholstery fabrics. This makes it a practical choice for family homes, entertainment areas, apartments, guest houses and everyday living spaces.
Even though FibreGuard is easy to maintain, it is still important to clean it correctly. The right method helps protect the fabric and keeps your couch looking fresh for longer.
Step 1: Do Not Panic
When a spill happens, the first thing to do is act calmly. Do not rub aggressively and do not use harsh chemicals. Most marks are easier to deal with when handled correctly from the start.
If there is solid residue, such as food or mud, gently remove the excess with the edge of a spoon or a flat utensil. Be careful not to push the stain deeper into the fabric.
Step 2: Use Water First
For most everyday stains, start with clean water. Lightly mist the area using a spray bottle or apply a small amount of water to the stain. Avoid pouring too much water directly onto the couch, as this can spread the mark and increase drying time.
Use a clean white cloth or paper towel to blot the area. Blotting is better than rubbing because it lifts the stain without pushing it further into the fabric.
Step 3: Use a Microfibre Cloth
After blotting, use a clean microfibre cloth and gently work the area in small circular movements. This helps lift the remaining stain from the fabric surface.
Always use a clean cloth. A dirty or coloured cloth may transfer marks or dye onto the fabric.
Step 4: Add Mild Soap for Tougher Marks
If water alone does not remove the stain, use a small amount of plain white household soap. Apply it sparingly and continue working gently with a microfibre cloth.
Do not use bleach, strong detergents, solvent cleaners or harsh chemicals unless a professional cleaning specialist has advised you to do so. Harsh products can damage upholstery and may affect the appearance of the fabric.
Step 5: Rinse and Air Dry
Once the mark has lifted, remove any soap residue with clean water and blot the area again. Allow the fabric to air dry naturally before using the couch.
Avoid using direct heat, hairdryers or heaters on the area, as too much heat can affect the fabric.
General FibreGuard Couch Care Tips
Vacuum your couch regularly using a soft upholstery attachment. This removes dust, crumbs and everyday dirt before they settle into the fabric. Rotate loose cushions if your couch design allows it, and avoid placing the sofa in direct sunlight for long periods if you want to help preserve colour over time.
